Sea Moss Gummies Recipe (Vegan) (1)

Do you enjoy candy or have a sweet tooth but hate the negative connotations associated with sweets?

If that's you then you are going to love these gummies that are made with sea moss gel. Yes that's right another way to sneak some sea moss into your diet.

I'm very much on a roll with these sea moss recipes, having recently dropped my D.I.Y gel, the smoothie and now this.

I've known about sea moss from drinking Irish moss as a child but Dr Sebi is hugely responsible for connecting people in the diaspora.

Including promoting the many health benefits of sea moss.

I have a sweet tooth, so these gummies are like the holy grain to me. I loveeeeeeee them so so much.

A lot of the gummy recipes out their are made with elderberry which is a great antioxidant powerhouse and a great superfood, one which I highly recommend.

However, I wanted to take a different health dynamic by making gummies with the same nutritional value but not made from elderberries.

Reason to make these gummies

  • They are extremely easy and fun
  • Adult and child friendly
  • Promote good health and wellness (enriched with vitamins and minerals)
  • A great way of incorporating sea moss into your lifestyle.
  • You can make ANY flavour gummy, using fresh fruit juice i.e mango, pineapple, cranberry, grape etc...
  • A healthy alternative to conventional candy without all that junk.

The steps

  • Pour the apple juice into a small saucepan together with the agar agar powder, ginger and cinnamon then proceed to whisk until everything is evenly combined.
  • Stir in the sea moss gel and agave nectar.
  • Switch on the stove on low-medium heat, start to whisk briskly and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer (DO NOT BOIL), you may notice a few lumps from the sea moss gel which will start to dissolve as you continue to whisk.
Sea Moss Gummies Recipe (Vegan) (4)
  • Continue to whisk until it starts to turn into a slightly thick-ish mixture, but not too thick as it will thicken as it cools down. (very important, in order for the gummies to set).
  • Have your gummy mould ready and use the dropper (or a very small teaspoon) to drop some of the mixture into the mould (work quickly as it sets fast).
  • Place the mould in the refrigerator for up to an hour until the gummies are firm to the touch.
  • Push the mould forward/upwards to release the gummies.
  • Keep the gummies in a jar, refrigerated and eat at your leisure!

Notes and tips

  • DO NOT increase the heat and bring the gummy mixture to the boil at any time as this will destroy its nutritional content.
  • Store the gummies in an air tight mason jar.
  • The mixture is enough to fill 2 gummy moulds (as pictured).
  • For best results, use agar agar powder and NOT the flakes.
  • Stick to the measurements that have been specified, if you add too much of one ingredient (i.e too much juice or sweetener) then this tends to loosen up the mixture which compromises the thickness that is needed.
  • Keep the gummies in the refrigerator at all times.
  • The gummies have a short shelf life, so far they have held up for 5 days (subject to change, will update accordingly).
  • These are natural gummies without additives meaning that aren't heat resistant nor are they spongy like Haribos.
  • If the mixture starts to thicken up too much, simply return it to the stove to re-heat and melt (do this on the lowest heat).

Hi Denise, I usually make the gummies in small batches which so far haven't gone past 5 days. For now I would suggest doing the same (make small batches). Sorry and I hope that helps!
