All The Canadian Slang In Snowd4y and Drake's 'Wah Gwan Delilah' Explained (2024)

Drake has teamed up with TikTok jokester Snowd4y, who posts parody rap videos using an exaggerated Toronto accent that leans Caribbean, for an unconventional track: "Wah Gwan Delilah."

"Wah Gwan Delilah" is Snowd4y and Drake's ultra-Canadian, inside-joke laden take on the Plain White T's 2006 hit, "Hey There Delilah." The new song's title is a Jamaican Patois phrase that essentially translates to "What's going on, Delilah."

Snowd4y, who is known for playing a caricature of a "Toronto hoodman," a term he hashtags on most of his videos, begins the song by asking, "What's it like in Toronto City," playing on the original song's "What's it like in New York City?" He then swaps the lyric of "a thousand miles away" for "two thousand kilometers" before declaring that the titular Delilah looks "so bad," which actually means that she looks so good.

"Dundas Square don't shine as bright as you/Top left, top left," croons Snowd4y. Dundas Square is Toronto's equivalent of Times Square, rife with bright lighting and advertisem*nts. "Top left" simply means "it's true." Snowb4y laments that he has to "finesse" his way via transit systems to get to Delilah, but that he's being "dissed" for doing so.

"I scan my Presto wit' no funds/Kick me off, you get brunched," he sings, indicating that if his Presto transit card doesn't work, someone will be catching a punch.

Drake soon arrives for a second verse, where he also speaks in slang and colloquialisms.

"Wah gwan, Delilah? Know I'm late 'cause there's bare traffic," sings Drake, apologizing for heavy loads of traffic on the way.

He then tells her that he's shown "his dog your 'Gram"and that he "knows a man that slapped it," leaving Drake "so cheesed." He continues to show his disappointment in knowing that Delilah has slept with another man, saying that he is "bent lowkey" over the situation.

Drake tells Delilah to join him on a double date if he really likes her as he's brought his "cro'nem" for her best friend.

"Sorry, he's wearin' a shiesty, he's not beat/It's just too smokey in these streets," Drake explains. His comrade can't show his face, but not because he's ugly, but because he must obscure his identity for his own protection in the "streets."

Snowd4y returns to the track for its final two verses, in which he continues to drop uniquely Canadian bars.

He tells Delilah he sees her "batty," or buttocks "from afar" before letting her know that his lungs are tarred from smoking Russian cream rolled blunts and that he's spent his CERB, or Canada Emergency Response Benefit check. Snowd4y asks Delilah to pick him up from the mall, letting her know that "the pack" a.k.a a shipment of marijuana, has arrived from British Columbia.

"Fiends blow my phone off the wall, I'm makin' waps/I get more bandskis than your pops, don't piss me off," he flexes on Delilah, bragging that not only is he reeling in the dough from selling drugs, he's making more money than her father.

Snowd4y advertises himself as someone to reach out to should one want to rob the "T.D, R.B.C, Scotiabank, R.B.C, C.I.B.C, P.C Financial," a series of Canadian banks.

He then scoffs, saying "Miyute, don't be movin' tough," meaning that the other person is a child acting like a bonafide tough guy. "I will call your Scarborough bluff," he sings, referring to a Toronto escarpment, the Scarborough Bluffs.

Snowd4y details that he's "always on the Jane," meaning that he's both smoking copious amounts of Mary Jane and frequently hanging out in the Jane and Finch neighborhood of Toronto. He accuses his opps of "hanging inside like Kai Cenat," an American YouTuberand online streamer.

He warns people to not walk in the bike lane, or they'll "catch a deafazz to the brain," meaning a sturdy whack.

Snowd4y wraps up the song by hitting on a new woman, this time singing, "Wah gwan, Sabrina? What's it like in Mississauga?" He then swaps his earlier Dundas Square reference for something more pertinent to Mississauga: "Square One don't shine as bright as you/I swear it's I swear it's true."
