This Warm Cranberry Citrus Drink is the perfect holiday drink to serve at parties or get-togethers. It is so easy to make and takes a few minutes to throw together!
My mother-in-law had this Warm Cranberry Citrus drink simmering on the stove the last time we were at her house and it was seriously the best thing for our sore throats.
Keep the leftovers in the fridge and then heat up a cup when you need something to warm you up and soothe your throat.
How to pick perfectly ripe cranberries:
-Cranberries are nicknamed bounce berries and they are bouncy when they are perfectly ripe.
-Cranberries don’t ripen after being picked off the vine. If they have brown spots on them, they are over ripe. Wrinkly cranberries are also over ripe.
Can I use frozen instead of fresh cranberries?
Fresh cranberries are definitely preferred for this recipe, but frozen cranberries work just as well.
Cooking cranberries:
When combining the cranberries with the water, cook the cranberries only until they burst.
You then strain them out of the mixture so it isn’t mushy.

Ingredients
- 3 cups fresh cranberries
- 6½ cups water divided
- 1½ cups sugar
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
- dash of cloves
- ⅔ cup orange juice
- ¼ cup lemon juice
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- fresh cranberries and orange slices for garnish
Instructions
Place cranberries and 2 1/2 cups of water in a large saucepan. Bring water to a boil and cook over medium heat until the berries pop (takes about 15-20 minutes).
Strain through a fine sieve (strainer), reserving the juice and discarding the cranberry skins. Pour the juice into a large bowl and set bowl aside.
In a large saucepan, combine the rest of the water (4 cups) and 1 1/2 cups sugar, cinnamon, and cloves. Bring water to a boil and cook until sugar is completely dissolved.
Pour water into bowl with cranberry juice, then add orange juice, lemon juice, and cinnamon sticks. Mix well and serve.
Garnish with fresh cranberries and sliced oranges.
Notes
You can keep this warm by keeping it on the stovetop on low or in a crock pot on low, stirring well before serving. It is also delicious served chilled.

Can you use frozen cranberries????

Cyd says:
We used fresh, but frozen should work too.

Christine says:
I think the directions may be wrong for, this recipe. If you cook the cranberries in 2-1/2 cups water for 15-20 minutes you end up with a very thick mushy mess and then after adding it to the other ingredients you still have a thick sludge. Nasty!

The video is for another recipe - Spiced Cider. This post is for Warm Cranberry Citrus Drink. We embed videos on all of our posts. It's not necessarily the matching video. We like to show you other recipe options that we have. Sorry about the confusion.
