Why make your own face mask?

Face masks are so easy and fun to make. And with a few simple ingredients, you can reveal brighter, tighter skin in minutes!!

Just imagine curling up by the fireplace with a mug of cocoa, Practical Magic on the screen, and your face covered in pumpkin bliss. I don’t mean the kind of pumpkin leftover from eating pumpkin pie. I mean, a brightening pumpkin face mask loaded with pumpkin skin benefits you won’t want to skip in your fall skincare routine.

If this is your first time trying a face mask, you might find yourself quickly addicted as I did. After making my first face mask for acne, I was inspired to whip many more like my DIY collagen face mask.

How exactly does this homemade pumpkin face mask benefit the skin?

I don’t know about you, but I don’t need a weather app to tell me it’s autumn. I can feel the chill in the air, hear the leaves crunch under my boots, and see the morning dew turn to frost. While I love autumn weather, it can make my skin dry and dull, like the crust on an overcooked pumpkin pie.

Burnt pie and weather aside, this pumpkin face mask recipe is terrific for the skin.

Pumpkin is not only delicious in seasonal recipes; it is incredibly beneficial to the skin. It contains alpha-hydroxy acids and enzymes that gently remove dead skin. At the same time, lactic acid evens out the skin tone, and vitamin C and vitamin A boost collagen production and cell turnover to brighten and tighten the skin.

And as for fall blemishes, a high concentration of zinc keeps them at bay. And pumpkins’ anti-inflammatory properties reduce excess oil, fade scars, and minimize pores.

Combined with restoring vitamin E oil and honey, a natural humectant that draws moisture to the skin soothes dryness, and staves off blemishes with anti-bacterial properties, these pumpkin face mask benefits are extensive.

Whip it all into a Bentonite clay to deeply penetrate pores and pull oil and impurities from the skin, and you’ve got one heck of fall beauty hack!

How do you apply a face mask?

1. Start with a clean face to remove surface bacteria and dirt while opening your pores. (Have you tried my homemade aloe vera cleanser yet?)

2. Apply a thin layer of the pumpkin face mask with a face mask spatula or clean hands to your clean face, avoiding the eye area.

3. Leave the pumpkin face mask on for 10 minutes or until the mask begins to harden and dry. You can extend the time by spritzing the mask with a hydrating face mist or simple DIY hydrosol to keep it on for up to 20 minutes.

4. After, gently rinse your face with cool water and a washcloth. I love using my anti-aging homemade toner to remove this face mask. Pat dry and follow up with a moisturizer such as my popular aloe vera face cream.
