What Is Hot Spiced Mulled Wine

Hot spiced wine drinks as a Christmas punch have been popular for hundreds of years. They typically have mulling spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and plenty of sugar or honey to sweeten them up. Non-alcoholic mulled wine may be made with apple, grape, or pear juices and are just as tasty.

It’s a holiday favorite around the world and goes by different names in the various regions. In Britain, it’s called mulled wine; in Germany, they say glühwein. (It’s pronounced glue-vine.) It’s sold in the Christmas market, Weihnachtsmarkt, along with other holiday foods and ornaments.

People in Chile and other South American countries call it navegado, which roughly translates to navigate or sail. In Scandinavia, it goes by the name glögg and is enjoyed at holiday parties with rice pudding.

A Hot And Spicy Holiday Drink

Whatever it’s called, spiced hot wine makes a holiday drink for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Halloween. Bottled mulled wines can be bought and heated, but they are never as good as a homemade batch. Recipes are as varied as the people who make this spicy drink. The basics are to have fruit and spices. Beyond that, there’s no way to go wrong.

Enjoy this warm holiday drink by the fire with friends and family!
